Two Lucky Quiltmaker Winners! (And some Warrenton, VA!)

I spent yesterday exploring beautiful old town Warrenton, VA!  But before I get to those photos, we've got some drawing to do.

Let's let the random number generator put an end to the suspense and choose our two lucky winners from 3597 entries in our Road Rally blog tour for Quiltmaker Magazine’s 100 blocks by 100 designers, volume 15!

Boy, that’s a mouth full!

It’s been a great tour, and I enjoyed meeting the other designers as I read their blogs and learned more about them, their styles, their lives, and the thread that ties us together – QUILTING!

I am also very excited about my block, still as yet un-re-named by me, but found as Sawthooth Flutter. (Just what IS that?!?) in the issue! Hahaha!

Truth be told, I haven’t had time to read all of the suggestions as I am on the road, but I’m weighing each one and will let you know what I come up with.

In the mean time, I can’t wait to dive into making more of these fun blocks!

You can find the original give-away post HERE with more information about my block.

So who are our lucky winners?

Warrenton, VA!

I spent some time wandering Warrenton, VA yesterday, enjoying the hilly historic district, appreciating all of the old stately homes with beautiful yards full with the abundant color of pre-summer flowers.

The Fauquier County Courthouse.

The Old Courthouse stands with its towering spire, majestically presiding over the junction of Waterloo, Winchester, Alexandria Pike, and Main streets.

I’ve always loved visiting historic buildings.  Courthouses and state capitols are right up there with old churches, schools and post offices, the cornerstones of everyday life in every age.

I didn’t go inside as there was a sign on the door “NO CELL PHONES” because this is still a working courthouse.

i did however look up its history:

The courthouse in 1882!

I love comparing photos taken NOW to photos from the past.

Next door to the courthouse:

The juvenile and domestic relations court

Such a beautiful building!

When I am traveling anywhere, the first thing on folks’ minds that I should “not miss” are the quilt shops in the area.  I was on limited free time, and if I had taken my time to visit the quilt shops, I would have missed things like this.  I love to search out the history of any given area.  After two days of quilting workshops and quilters, a change of pace is a good thing to recharge my batteries.

And I would have missed this:

Don’t let the littleness in others bring out the littleness in you!

This was a personal message to me.  I honestly believe this was something I was supposed to come face to face with yesterday, in a gentle way while hiking up the hill to get my photo of the courthouse.  If I had gone any other way, I would have missed it.

We’ll catch the quilt shops another time.

This morning I’m on my way to Hagerstown, MD after a bite of breakfast.  There is a bit more time for exploring as I don’t need to be in Hagerstown until mid-afternoon.  I had my days mixed up.  Tonight is my guild presentation for the Antietam Quilters, workshop tomorrow.  I thought the workshop was today and TOMORROW was the lecture.

This is much better!

Oh, and the last 301?  It went home with Lydia last night! (Shown in the green shirt!)

She had asked me about it during our workshop, but I still needed it for sewing.  Now that I was able to use it for a couple of nights of hotel sewing here in Manassas, and realizing that 2 of my upcoming lectures are evening ones, with no hotel sewing time happening, I decided to let the last 301 go to a new home.  Thank you Lydia!  I hope you enjoy her as much as I have!

And there is always handwork!

  1. Thank you Bonnie! I had the pleasure of attending last night's presentation at the Stone House Quilters guild and you were great! I am not sure which inspired me more, the quilts or your wonderful spirit and attitude. You shared so many ideas, tips and inspiring quilts - I can't decide which one to make first! And you make me think about my own attitude - do I generate positivity and happiness like you do? Certainly not all the time! I can work on that while I work on my quilt. Now, which one, which one? Thank you so much for taking the time to travel and share your gifts!

  2. Thank you for sharing the wonderful town photos. That is a great message on the church sign. A lesson for each of us! I hope you enjoyed seeing all the wonderful "BONNIE QUILTS" yesterday and today on Quiltville Open Studio. I posted mine and the "challenge" to show some love to Bonnie, and the response was overwhelming. We love your work and what you share with so many! Thank you. And congrats to the winners.

  3. My suggestion for a name for your "sawtooth flutter" block....is to name it "Mona's Sawtooth" or "Mona's _______"(fill in the blank). I just think it's time for a block to be named for her!

  4. I was lucky enough to attend the lecture/trunk show last night. Bonnie, I love your quilts and your easy, charming style. But your energy and enthusiasm sure beats it all. Talking to you, listening to you, taking pictures with you, and enjoying your presentation - I am still giddy from last night's excitement!!!

  6. Too bad you didn't take the time to visit the Stinkin' Cute quilt shop across from the Church you were at....Kelly Ann's Quilt Shop is to die for! And of course, Kelly Ann is a hoot herself! The shop is full of fun things no quilter should be without and a selection to die for.

  9. I think on your trips you should do what you want. It doesn't have to be quilt related. If you visit a quilt shop then we'll and good. Enjoy your time and have fun.... I just met up with someone who follows you daily. We are getting together because we have both made a pixelation quilt.... you have featured my quilt progress.

Now I am taking this quilt to our retreat to spread the word.. it is so good following you and finding locals who do as well and then getting together.
    Thankyou Bonnie
